Rob also faced challenges with his confidence and had spent the majority of the previous six years not being able to leave his home alone.
Rob came to Acorn for a chat about how his employment coach may be able to help him become an electrician and they agreed an action plan together. This included improving his English and maths skills, to eventually gain qualifications at a level 2 in order to be accepted on to the electricians’ course. They also talked about his confidence levels and general employability skills and his employment coach suggested taking part in the employability course, run from the office as an opportunity to meet new people and develop his skills. It was a lot to take in, but Rob was excited and committed to improving his chances at achieving his long-term goals.
Rob started with his maths, and quickly achieved a qualification at Entry Level 3. This boosted his confidence enormously and went on to achieve both English and maths at Level 1.
Rob joined the employability course and has met lots of new people to share his experiences and boost his confidence. His tutor is confident that he will achieve his Personal Development in Employability Award very soon and his skills in money management, using IT, interviews and applying for jobs have been greatly improved. He is now on track to complete his English & maths at Level 2 which will give him the best possible chance of acceptance on to the electrician’s course in September.
