About the Apprenticeship

The Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) holds a 'dual-professional status, initially attaining proficiency in a vocational or subject specialisation before undergoing subsequent training as a teacher. Consequently, many educators in the Education and Training Sector (ETS) embark on teaching as a second or subsequent career. The role of the LST plays a crucial part in the success of traineeship and apprenticeship programs, contributing to the effective delivery of vocational education and training that aligns with the needs of both learners and employers.

LSTs engage in instructing both young individuals and adults across various sectors within the ETS, encompassing work-based/independent training provision, further, adult, and higher education, offender-learning, as well as the voluntary sector. The responsibilities of LSTs involve planning and delivering learning experiences that are contemporary and challenging, aiming to inspire learners to actively participate and realize their full potential. Collaborating closely with colleagues and other ETS professionals, LSTs actively contribute to supporting learner progress. Additionally, LSTs are dedicated to ensuring the overall well-being—physical, psychological, and social—of the learners they serve.
